Meath Move Gathering 2026: A Day-Long Celebration of Dance

At Solstice Arts Centre · Railway Street, Navan, Co. Meath

Dancers performing at Meath Move Gathering, Solstice Arts Centre Navan

Solstice Arts Centre turns its whole building over to dance for one Saturday with Meath Move Gathering, known locally as MMG. The 2026 edition runs across the day on 5 September and mixes hands-on workshops for beginners with staged performances, so it works equally well for someone who wants to try floorwork for the first time and for someone who just wants to sit and watch.

What to expect

The day is built from four separate strands rather than one long show, so you can pick and choose. Introduction to Floorwork with Aneta Dortová runs at midday, a workshop session aimed at people new to contemporary movement on the ground. Peekaboo!, a family-friendly piece, is staged twice, at 10:30am and again at 1:30pm, making it easy to fit around nap times or lunch. Scéalta sa Ghluaisne - Stories in Motion, an Irish-language movement piece, is also at 1:30pm. The day closes with a Double Bill of Migration and The Shake at 7:00pm, the more adult-focused evening performance. Pricing varies by session: some, including the film and outdoor elements of the day, are free and unticketed, while the workshops and evening double bill are ticketed separately, so check each session on the Solstice website before you plan your day.

Solstice is Meath’s main publicly-funded arts venue on Railway Street in Navan, supported by the Arts Council and Meath County Council, and MMG is one of its flagship annual dance dates, drawing performers and workshop leaders from outside the county as well as local dance groups.

Getting there

Navan is roughly an hour from Dublin on the N3, and Bus Éireann and Dublin Coach both run regular services into Navan Bus Station on Railway Street, a short walk from the arts centre. Town-centre parking is available within easy walking distance if you are driving.

While you’re in Navan

Navan sits where the Boyne and Blackwater rivers meet and has cafés and restaurants on Trimgate Street for a pre- or post-show bite. There is more to see in Navan and across Co. Meath.
