Oldbridge Farmers Market at Battle of the Boyne

At Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre - Oldbridge Estate · Oldbridge House, Oldbridge, Drogheda, Co. Meath

Stalls at the Oldbridge Farmers Market in the walled garden

Every first Sunday of July, August, and September, the grounds of Oldbridge Estate come alive with food stalls, and it is one of the more unusual settings you will find for a farmers market in Ireland. The Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre - a Georgian manor on the banks of the Boyne - opens its parklands for up to 12 producers to trade, all free to enter. If you want to load up on grass-fed meat, seasonal veg, and good artisan food while spending a morning somewhere genuinely worth seeing, this is a solid way to spend a Sunday.

What to expect

The market runs from 10am to 2pm, giving you a full morning without any rush. Stalls focus on local food producers: all the meat on offer is grass-fed and organic, and alongside that you will typically find fresh seasonal vegetables and artisan treats. Twelve stalls is an honest, browsable size - enough variety to make a weekly shop feel worthwhile, small enough that you can see everything without effort.

The setting is part of what makes this one stand out. Oldbridge House sits within restored parklands that include a Victorian Walled Garden with heritage fruit trees, herbaceous borders, and a peach house. The estate also holds over 5 km of waymarked walking trails - the Crab Apple Walk and Greenhill’s Walk are both easy going and make a natural extension to a market visit. The visitor centre itself tells the story of the 1690 Battle of the Boyne through original muskets, cannons, and a laser-projected model of the battlefield, so you can easily turn the morning into a half-day out.

Parking is free. Note that a section of Oldbridge Road is currently closed to vehicles as part of the Boyne Boardwalk Refurbishment Scheme, though pedestrian access remains fully open.

Getting there

Oldbridge Estate sits just off the M1 motorway - exit at Junction 9 and follow signs for the Battle of the Boyne. Coming from Drogheda town, you can also approach via Donore Village on the south side of the Boyne. By public transport, TFI Local Link Route 163 (Athboy to Drogheda) runs eight times daily and stops near the estate. Drogheda itself is well served by Irish Rail on the Dublin - Belfast Enterprise line, with the estate a short taxi ride from the station.

Parking on site is free and typically plentiful for a Sunday morning market.

While you’re in Drogheda

Drogheda is one of the larger towns on the east coast, with a medieval core, the famous St Peter’s Church of Plunkett, and good independent cafes along the quays - worth an hour before or after the market. There is more to see in Drogheda and across Co. Meath.
