What to Expect

Rath Cairn (Rath Chairn) is Ireland’s only inland Gaeltacht, established in 1935 when Irish-speaking families from Connemara were resettled in west Meath. The Comharchumann (community co-operative) runs Irish language events, traditional music sessions, summer courses for adults and young people, and cultural evenings throughout the year. The Gaeltacht sits about 70km from Dublin city, making it accessible for day visits. Irish language courses for adults are offered through rathchairn.com.
