What to Expect

Rath Cairn (Rath Chairn) is Ireland’s only inland Gaeltacht, established in 1935 when Irish-speaking families from Connemara were resettled in west Meath. The Comharchumann (community co-operative) runs Irish language events, traditional music sessions, summer courses for adults and young people, and cultural evenings throughout the year. Getting There

Rath Cairn is approximately 8km south-west of Athboy in west County Meath, off the R154, and about 70km from Dublin city. Car is the practical option as public transport to the area is limited.
