What to Expect

Miltown Malbay Farmers Market sets up every Friday from 10am to 3pm in the SuperValu car park on the Ennis Road, running seasonally from 1 May to 2 October. Stalls sell fresh fish landed locally, speciality baking, free-range eggs, salads and organic vegetables, local cheeses, jams and chutneys, and handmade crafts, giving the town a weekly source of fresh food alongside its supermarket. Miltown Malbay is best known nationally as the home of the Willie Clancy Summer School, Ireland’s largest traditional Irish music summer school, held every July, and the farmers market is part of the everyday West Clare life that continues around that bigger annual event. The market is run by local volunteers under PRO Eddy Landzaat, and like many of Clare’s smaller markets it depends on a core group of regular stallholders supplemented by occasional producers selling seasonal surplus. Its car park setting means good access and parking for both traders and shoppers, and its position on the Ennis Road puts it on the main route through town, giving it visibility to passing traffic as well as locals doing a weekly shop. The market’s season lines up with the tourist season on this stretch of the West Clare coast, which also takes in Spanish Point and Lahinch a short drive away.

Getting There

Miltown Malbay is on the N67 in West Clare, about 37km from Ennis and 12km from Ennistymon. The SuperValu car park is on the Ennis Road at the edge of the town centre.
