At Glenisk O'Connor Park · Tullamore, Co. Offaly
Offaly GAA clubs and the county board join forces on August Bank Holiday Monday for a county-wide sponsored cycle, raising funds split evenly between participating clubs and the county board. Riders come from GAA, camogie and LGFA clubs, cycling clubs and schools across Offaly, taking part individually or as part of a relay team over one of two routes covering the county. All roads lead to Glenisk O’Connor Park in Tullamore, where the day finishes with a barbecue and refreshments for everyone who takes part.
Two routes crisscross Offaly on the day, with clubs encouraged to cover whichever stretch suits their members best rather than every rider completing the full distance. Any bike qualifies, including standard pedal cycles and battery-assisted e-bikes, and riders can enter as individuals or club relay teams, passing the effort along a chain of clubmates. It is modelled on the Grand Canal walk and run fundraisers that proved popular in Offaly in past years, and organisers reported strong early sign-up, with dozens of riders registered and several thousand euro raised in advance through the Offaly GAA fundraising portal. The finish at Glenisk O’Connor Park brings clubs from across the county together for food and a shared sense of the day’s total, with proceeds split fifty-fifty between each participating club and Offaly GAA’s own county board funds.
Glenisk O’Connor Park is Offaly GAA’s home ground in Tullamore, a short walk from the town centre. Car parking is available around the grounds, though the finish draws cyclists and support vehicles from across the county through the afternoon, so allow extra time if driving in for the BBQ.
Tullamore is Offaly’s county town and the natural finish point for a county-wide event like this, with plenty of cafes and pubs around the town centre to refuel in afterwards. There is more to see in Tullamore and across Co. Offaly.
