What to Expect

Scariff Mart at Waterpark, on the eastern edge of Scariff town, is the smallest of the four Clare Co-operative Marts sites and serves the East Clare farming community around Lough Derg, including Tuamgraney, Mountshannon, Tulla and Whitegate. Unlike the daily rhythm of the Ennis yard, Scariff runs a general cattle sale, including calves and weanlings, on selected Saturdays rather than every week, with sales concentrated in the busier spring and autumn store periods when farmers are moving young stock off grass. The sale gives East Clare farmers a local outlet without the drive to Ennis, and the same auctioneers and staff who run the Ennis, Kilrush and Kilfenora yards work the Scariff ring on sale days. Because Scariff does not sell every Saturday, the mart’s phone line is staffed only when a sale is actually on, and anyone planning to sell or buy is advised to ring ahead or check the sale calendar on claremarts.ie before travelling. Online bidding through the MartBids platform is available for registered buyers on the days Scariff does sell, on the same basis as the mart’s other sites, meaning bidders who cannot get to the yard in person can still take part remotely once they have phone approval from the Ennis head office.

Getting There

Scariff is on the western shore of Lough Derg in East Clare, about 30km from Ennis via the R352 and R463. Waterpark is a short distance from the town centre, with on-site parking for cars and livestock trailers.
