Seamie O'Dowd in Concert

At The Studio at glor · Causeway Link, Ennis, Co. Clare

Solo multi-instrumentalist performing in an intimate venue

What to Expect

Seamie O’Dowd is a Sligo-born multi-instrumentalist who started out learning fiddle from his parents before building a career that has taken him to the Sydney Opera House and the Rock in Rio festival, performing alongside a long list of well-known Irish and international musicians. This intimate date in the Studio, glor’s smaller performance space, is one of a short run of solo dates he is playing this autumn to mark twenty years since his debut solo album. The show pulls together his different musical interests, moving between traditional Irish fiddle and guitar playing, blues influences and jazz-tinged instrumental work, drawn from four solo albums released over two decades. Rather than sticking to one genre, O’Dowd’s live sets are built around variety, so the same evening might move from a stripped-back reel to a slow blues number and back again, reflecting a career spent playing whatever the song needs rather than working to a fixed formula. The Studio at glor is a smaller room than the venue’s 485-seat main auditorium, used for exactly this kind of close, listening-focused gig, and the later 8.30pm start compared to most glor shows suggests a more relaxed, late-evening pace suited to a solo instrumental set rather than a full band performance.
