At The Model · The Mall, Sligo, F91 TP20
The Living Ginger runs at The Model in Sligo until 27 September 2026, showing a further selection of paintings and watercolours by Jack Butler Yeats alongside the gallery’s larger Yeats retrospective, A Painted Universe. Both shows draw on The Model’s own holdings, part of the Niland Collection, one of the most significant public collections of the artist’s work anywhere. Together the two exhibitions give visitors an unusually full picture of a painter whose career and imagination were shaped by his Sligo childhood.
The Living Ginger focuses on Yeats’s distinctive approach to figurative painting, with works that show his loose, expressive later style and his recurring interest in ordinary Irish life, from fairground scenes to horses and travelling performers. Seen alongside A Painted Universe next door, it rounds out a fuller survey of his range than either show offers alone. Free guided tours of the wider Yeats collection also run on Thursday mornings for visitors who want more context than the gallery wall texts provide. The galleries are open six days a week and admission to both exhibitions is free.
The Model sits on The Mall in Sligo town centre, an easy walk from the bus and rail station. Parking is available nearby and the building is wheelchair accessible.
Combine the visit with the rest of Sligo town’s cafes and the Garavogue riverside walk, only minutes from the gallery. There is more of the county’s Yeats connections to explore across Co. Sligo.
