At Hawk's Well Theatre · Temple Street, Sligo, Co. Sligo
Cork-born performer Emer Dineen brings her five-star cabaret show to Hawk’s Well Theatre for one night this summer. 0800 CUPID is a bold, genre-defying musical about love, loss and a couple of very strange years - told through Dineen’s drag persona Cupid, a crumbling club-kid navigating loneliness, resilience and late-night dancefloors. The Irish Examiner named it the highlight of Dublin Theatre Festival 2024. The Guardian gave it five stars and called it “feverish, fantastical.” If you want theatre that doesn’t sit still, this is worth the trip.
Dineen co-created the show with award-winning playwright and director Phillip McMahon (THISISPOPBABY), and it shows in the precision underneath the glitter. The production features a live band, original music co-composed with musical director Tom Beech, and electronic production from Irish artist Elaine Mai. It runs 70 minutes without an interval - tight, propulsive, no slack. The show explores what it means to navigate love in a lonely world, filtered through camp, house music and raw theatrical honesty. Age guidance is 14 and over. There are trigger warnings for adult themes, strong language, flashing/strobe lighting and sudden loud sounds.
