Swinford Agricultural Show is held each August on Tony Gleeson’s farm at Cullane, just off the N5 on the edge of town, and 2026 follows what organisers describe as a record-breaking 2025 turnout.
The show is built around traditional livestock classes for cattle, sheep, horses and poultry, judged through the day alongside a dedicated dog show. Home industries, photography and bakery competitions run in the produce tents, and junior classes give younger exhibitors their own categories. Beyond the judging rings, the show has a strong family side: a craft village, pets corner, bonny baby competition and face painting run all day, with potato picking and turf footing competitions adding a working-farm element specific to shows like this one. Live music plays through the afternoon and evening. Livestock and produce entries are generally taken in advance through the show’s printed schedule rather than on the gate, so exhibitors planning to compete should get entry forms from the show office or website well before the day itself.
The showgrounds are at Cullane, just off the main N5 Castlebar road on the edge of Swinford, about 20km southeast of Foxford. Swinford has its own railway station on the Dublin-Ballina line via Manulla Junction, and Bus Éireann services run through the town. A free shuttle bus runs from Swinford town centre out to the showgrounds, worth using as on-site parking fills quickly.
