TechKidz Coding and Technology Summer Camp - Midleton 2026

At CBS Secondary School Midleton · Midleton, Co. Cork

Children at coding and technology summer camp Midleton Cork

TechKidz runs one of Ireland’s most established coding and technology summer programmes, and the five-day Midleton camp is a solid option for parents in East Cork looking to keep children aged 7 to 14 productively occupied in August. The week is hands-on throughout - no sitting at a desk watching slides - and no prior coding experience is needed, so it suits complete beginners as much as kids who already tinker with Scratch at home.

What to expect

The camp runs Monday to Friday at CBS Secondary School in Midleton, from 9:30am to 3:30pm each day. TechKidz takes a multi-activity approach, moving children through different disciplines across the week rather than drilling one skill.

Depending on the day, children might be building games in Scratch - Scratch is a block-based language that lets beginners write working code quickly - or designing their own game controllers from everyday materials like playdough and graphite pencils. Older and more confident participants can progress to Python, HTML, CSS, or JavaScript. The micro:bit platform also features in many TechKidz weeks: children use the Kitronic-lab kit to build projects like a traffic light algorithm, a dice game, or a light show sequence.

Construction and engineering activities run alongside the coding, so there is variety for children who prefer physical making over screen time. The emphasis throughout is on problem-solving and building something that actually works rather than memorising syntax.

The price is €140 for a first child, with discounts for additional children from the same family and 20 per cent off when booking another camp at the same time.

Getting there

Midleton is about 25 km east of Cork City on the N25, a straightforward drive of roughly 30 minutes from the city centre. For those travelling by public transport, Irish Rail runs a commuter service from Cork Kent Station to Midleton - the journey takes around 25 minutes. The CBS Secondary School sits close to the town centre, and street parking is generally available nearby during school summer holidays.

While you’re in Midleton

Midleton is well worth a look in its own right - the Old Midleton Distillery, home of Jameson Irish Whiskey, is one of Cork’s most visited attractions, and the town has a good range of cafes and a busy weekly farmers’ market. There is more to see in Midleton and across Co. Cork.
