The Last Wake at Doory Hall Demesne

At Doory Hall Demesne · Oakley Hall, Battery Road, Abbeycartron, Co. Longford

Candlelit ruins at Doory Hall Demesne during The Last Wake Halloween event

What to Expect

Doory Hall Demesne, a set of historic ruins at Abbeycartron on the edge of Longford town, hosts The Last Wake on Saturday 24 October 2026, an immersive Halloween evening built around the site’s own atmosphere rather than a stage show. As darkness falls, the ruins are lit with candlelight and fire, with a live string quartet, masked performers and storytelling woven through the grounds, drawing on the old Samhain association with the thinning boundary between the living and the dead.

The event is described by its organisers as the first part of a three-year programme to bring the demesne back into public use, with a nature-focused follow-up planned for 2027 under the working title Nature Takes Over the Ruins, and a wider reimagining of the estate planned for 2028. That framing makes this first Halloween evening as much a public reintroduction to a site that has been closed off for years as it is a one-night event, and it is worth going into expecting a slower, more theatrical pace than a typical Halloween party, built around walking the ruins in the dark rather than a fixed stage.
