If you have ever wondered what separates a Tullamore DEW 18 Year Old Single Malt from the everyday Original, this is a chance to find out - guided by the people who actually make it. The Digital Drams series from The Whisky Shop brings the Tullamore D.E.W. distillery into your living room via a live Zoom session hosted by brand ambassadors Kevin Pigott and Conor Friel. It suits confident whiskey enthusiasts who want to taste aged expressions side by side, and equally suits complete beginners who have never done a guided tasting before.
Your sample pack arrives by post before the event. Inside are six 3cl drams spanning the full Tullamore DEW range: the Original, the 12 Year Old Special Reserve, the 14 Year Old, the 18 Year Old Single Malt, the XO Caribbean Rum Cask finish, and one limited travel exclusive - the Rouge 13 Year Old Single Malt. You also get a ceramic Tullamore DEW branded cup as a gift with the package.
On the night, Kevin Pigott broadcasts live from the distillery in Tullamore, giving a behind-the-scenes look at the production process - from the water sourced in the Slieve Bloom Mountains through to distillation and blending. Conor Friel leads the tasting alongside him, walking through each whiskey in turn: tasting notes, production background, what to smell for, how the cask finish shows up in the glass. The session runs approximately 90 minutes to two hours. A private Zoom link is sent by email the day before the event; if it has not arrived by noon on the day, the Whisky Shop customer service team can help.
This is a virtual event and you join from wherever you are. If the session inspires you to visit the distillery in person, Tullamore is about an hour from Dublin on the M6 and 40 minutes from Athlone. Bus Eireann runs regular services from Dublin’s Busaras; the journey takes roughly 1 hour 40 minutes. The Tullamore D.E.W. Visitor Centre on Bury Quay has on-site parking if you drive.
The distillery itself offers in-person tours where you can blend and bottle your own whiskey. Charleville Castle on the edge of town is one of Ireland’s best-preserved Gothic Revival buildings and is worth an afternoon on its own. There is more to see in Tullamore and across Co. Offaly.
