Wells Food Fest

At Wells House & Gardens · Ballyedmond, Gorey, Co. Wexford

Wells Food Fest with food trucks and live music at historic estate

A food festival set inside a working Victorian estate has a different feel to a marquee in a car park. The Wells Food Fest, held at Wells House & Gardens on the outskirts of Gorey, combines a genuine food market atmosphere - trucks, live music, chef demonstrations - with 480 acres of woodland, a fairy trail, an adventure playground, and the option to take a guided tour through the Victorian house itself. It suits families well, and anyone who wants a full day out rather than a single-purpose event will get their money’s worth.

What to expect

The festival centres on a lineup of food trucks drawing on local producers and street food, set against the formal gardens and wooded grounds of the Wells estate. Alongside the food, there are culinary demonstrations from chefs - a chance to pick up techniques or just watch something being made properly - and live music running through the day. Because the festival is folded into standard estate admission, you can move freely between the food stalls and everything else the grounds offer: the woodland walks (including the Lady Frances Walk and Mogue’s Enchanted Walk, totalling over 5km), the animal farm, the adventure playground, and the Victorian Terrace Gardens. Guided house tours of the 19th-century mansion, designed by Daniel Robertson, run separately and are worth booking if the architecture appeals. Mrs Stone’s Café is on site for coffee and lighter bites between courses.

Getting there

Gorey is on the main Dublin - Rosslare Europort rail line, with regular Intercity services from Dublin Connolly and Pearse taking roughly an hour. The town’s train station is about 4km from Wells House, so most visitors arriving by public transport will need a taxi or lift for the last stretch. By road, the estate sits just off the N11/M11 - the main Dublin to Wexford route - making it an easy stop if you are travelling south. The estate has on-site parking.

While you’re in Gorey

Gorey itself is a compact market town with good independent shopping along Main Street and several well-regarded cafés and restaurants. There is more to see in Gorey and across Co. Wexford.
