Westmeath Junior B Football Championship

At Tyrrellspass and The Downs · Tyrrellspass GAA, Mullingar Road, Tyrrellspass, Co. Westmeath

Junior B Gaelic football championship match at Tyrrellspass GAA

The Westmeath Junior B Football Championship is the county’s entry-level adult grade, split into four sections and giving smaller clubs and second teams a full summer of championship football. The next round of group fixtures falls on Tuesday 11 August 2026, with confirmed ties at Tyrrellspass and The Downs. It is the most local and least publicised of the county’s football grades, but it draws a loyal following of club members and families in the towns and villages involved.

What to expect

Confirmed fixtures for 11 August: Tyrrellspass v St Mary’s Rochfortbridge at Tyrrellspass (Section B, 7:30pm) and Na Dúnta v Garrycastle at The Downs (Section C, 7:30pm), with a further Section C fixture, Kilbeggan Shamrocks v Garrycastle, listed at St. James Park with kick-off to be confirmed on the night. Expect a small, informal club-ground atmosphere: a handful of spectators lining the touchline, a scoreboard kept by a volunteer, and teams made up largely of clubmen playing outside the top three grades. There is no live coverage or ticketing, and admission is a simple gate charge on the night. The Junior B group stage runs on a Tuesday evening cycle through August as each section works towards its own knockout stage.

Getting there

Tyrrellspass GAA is on the Mullingar Road on the edge of the village, on the N6 between Kilbeggan and Rochfortbridge, with parking at the grounds. The Downs is signposted off the N4 close to Mullingar, also with on-site parking.
