At St Colman's Park · Cobh, Co. Cork
An away day to Cobh is one of the more distinctive trips in the League of Ireland First Division calendar. Wexford FC make the journey to St Colman’s Park on Friday 31 July 2026 for a 19:45 kick-off against Cobh Ramblers - a fixture that has produced some feisty football between the sides in recent seasons. Wexford supporters who travel will find a proper old-school ground with a genuine atmosphere, worth the trip for the football alone.
The SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division match is the third meeting of these two sides in the 2026 season. Wexford FC won the opening fixture at St Colman’s Park 3-0 back in February, so Cobh will be looking for a response on home turf. The sides have a competitive head-to-head going back years, with Wexford edging the overall record but Cobh more than capable of turning it on at home.
St Colman’s Park is a compact ground with a capacity around 5,000 to 6,000. The pitch was relaid with artificial turf in 2024, which makes for a lively, fast surface. Floodlit Friday evening games at this ground have a good reputation among away supporters for atmosphere. The town of Cobh itself sits on Great Island in Cork Harbour, which means the ground has one of the more unusual settings in Irish football - you arrive by ferry or by road through Fota Island.
Wexford FC is a supporter-owned club and has arranged official supporters buses for away matches to Cobh earlier in the season. Check with the club closer to the date about whether a bus is running for the July fixture - email or follow their social channels for updates.
Cobh is in Co. Cork, roughly 225 km southwest of Wexford town. By car, take the N11/M11 to Waterford, then the N25 west to Cork, and follow signs for Cobh via the R624 through Fota Island - allow around two and a half hours. There is parking near the ground but space is limited on matchdays; arriving early is advisable.
By public transport, Irish Rail runs services from Wexford to Cork Kent Station, from where Cork’s suburban rail line (the Cobh line) runs directly to Cobh station, a short walk from the ground. The train journey from Cork city to Cobh takes around 25 minutes and runs regularly on weekday evenings.
For Wexford supporters making a full day of it, Cobh and Cork city offer plenty before a 19:45 kick-off. The town of Cobh has strong maritime heritage and is worth an hour of anyone’s time. There is more to see in Wexford and across Co. Wexford.
