Wexford FC vs UCD AFC

At UCD Bowl · Belfield, Dublin 4

Wexford FC away match

Watching Wexford FC on the road has its own atmosphere - there is something about a tight away end, a packed travelling support behind the goal, and the satisfaction of seeing your team win on someone else’s turf. This First Division clash at the UCD Bowl puts Wexford up against University College Dublin AFC in one of the League of Ireland’s more distinctive grounds, a compact stadium tucked into the Belfield campus on Dublin’s southside. It suits anyone who follows the Wexford FC project: a supporter-owned club punching hard in the First Division, with promotion ambitions that make every away point matter.

What to expect

The UCD Bowl holds around 3,000 spectators with 1,500 seats in a single covered stand on the southern side of the pitch and uncovered standing at both ends. It is an intimate ground - you will hear the managers shout and feel every goal. Away supporters are accommodated in the section at the water tower end, furthest from the turnstiles.

The match is a SSE Airtricity League First Division fixture, and the two clubs have history - they have met more than 25 times in recent seasons, with the head-to-head fairly even. Wexford took a 2-1 win against UCD in May 2026, so there is form and rivalry to add edge to proceedings. An evening kick-off under floodlights at 19:45 keeps the atmosphere sharp.

Check the Wexford FC website and social channels in the days before the match for news on organised supporters buses from Wexford town. These are common for away fixtures and take the hassle out of the journey.

Getting there

Wexford town is roughly 145km south of Dublin on the M11/N11 corridor. By car, allow around 90 minutes from Wexford town to Belfield, longer in evening Dublin traffic - aim to arrive by 18:45 at the latest. Parking on the UCD campus is available but fills early on match nights.

By rail, Irish Rail runs regular intercity services from Wexford to Dublin Connolly or Dublin Heuston. From either station, Dublin Bus routes serve the Belfield area - the 39A stops close to the campus entrance. The journey from central Dublin to UCD takes around 20 to 25 minutes.

While you’re in Wexford

If you are making a weekend of it, Wexford town itself rewards a wander - the quays, the medieval streets, and the opera festival legacy give the town a character that holds up well. There is more to see in Wexford and across Co. Wexford.
