Wicklow Comedy Club

At O'Shea's Corner · Abbey Street, Wicklow, Co. Wicklow

Stand-up comedy night poster

A proper stand-up night in Wicklow town, with a line-up that pulls from the top of the Irish comedy circuit. The Wicklow Comedy Club takes over O’Shea’s Corner on Abbey Street for a two-hour show on Friday, 3 July - the first of two back-to-back nights at the venue over the weekend. If you want a sociable Friday night out in a pub setting with laughs that actually land, this is worth the trip.

What to expect

Fred Cooke headlines, with Gar Murran in support and Paul Marsh MC-ing the evening. Fred Cooke is well known on the Irish circuit - he tours regularly with his high-energy musical comedy, has played the Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, and appears as MC on The Tommy Tiernan Show on RTÉ. The format is a classic club night: MC warms up the room, supports set the tone, headliner closes it out. Two hours, starting at 9pm.

The show is held at O’Shea’s Corner, a pub that has been part of Wicklow town since the 1800s - the building started life as a forge in 1845 and became a public house in the early 1900s. The bar has its original walls intact and hosts live events regularly. Comedy nights here have been a recurring fixture, with previous line-ups including Bernard O’Shea, Karl Spain, and John Colleary appearing at the same venue. The room is pub-scale, so the atmosphere is close and the laughs carry.

Getting there

Wicklow town sits roughly 50km south of Dublin on the east coast. By train, Irish Rail runs regular services from Dublin Connolly and Pearse to Wicklow station - the journey takes around an hour and the station is a short walk from Abbey Street. By road, the N11/M11 takes you directly from Dublin; the journey is around 45 minutes in light traffic. Parking in Wicklow town centre is generally straightforward on a Friday evening - the town has street parking and a car park off Market Square a few minutes’ walk from O’Shea’s Corner.
