Wicklow Home Regatta Skiff Racing

Wicklow Rowing Club hosts the Wicklow Home Regatta on Monday, 3 August 2026, the ninth and closing event of the 2026 East Coast skiff racing season. Crews from rowing and coastal rowing clubs along the east coast travel to Wicklow’s seafront for a full day of racing, run from the club’s base beside the North Pier. It brings the traditional wooden skiff racing season to a close on home water for the Wicklow club.

What to expect

East coast skiff racing is done in traditional fixed seat rowing boats, crewed by club members racing in age and gender categories from juveniles up to veterans, over short sprint courses in the bay. A home regatta means a bigger than usual turnout for Wicklow Rowing Club, with the club’s own crews racing in front of home support as well as hosting visiting clubs for what is typically the last fixture before the season’s placings are settled. Expect a busy stretch of seafront for the day, boats being launched and recovered at the slipway, and a competitive but sociable atmosphere between clubs who race each other regularly across the season. The regatta calendar for the year has been running since May, with Wicklow’s date fixed as the final event.

Getting there

Wicklow Rowing Club is based on the seafront beside the North Pier, an easy walk from Wicklow town centre and the town’s railway station on the Dublin to Rosslare line. The seafront can get busy with cars on regatta day, so walking in from the town is the easier option.
