Wicklow Senior Football Championship: Baltinglass v Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney

Defending champions Baltinglass face Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney, known locally as AGB, in the Wicklow Senior Football Championship at Echelon Park, Aughrim, on Saturday, 15 August 2026. AGB come from the amalgamation of two Arklow clubs in 1999 and have grown into one of the county’s stronger football sides, so this group game carries real weight for both teams as the championship moves into its middle rounds.

What to expect

This is the second of three group fixtures for Baltinglass in this year’s championship, and a win here would put the reigning champions in a strong position heading into the closing round. AGB field senior men’s and senior ladies’ teams out of Arklow and have invested heavily in their underage structures in recent years, which is starting to show through at adult level. Expect an open, score-heavy game between two ambitious clubs rather than a defensive arm-wrestle, with Echelon Park’s well-kept pitch suiting fast, direct football. The 5:00pm throw-in means it is a good fixture for families to attend before the evening sets in. As with the rest of the group stage, results here will shape the quarter-final draw later in August.

Getting there

Echelon Park is just off the R747 on the edge of Aughrim village, with parking at the grounds. It is around 20 minutes’ drive from Arklow and a similar distance from Baltinglass, making it a fairly central venue for both sets of supporters. There is no rail link into Aughrim, so travelling by car is the only realistic option.
