At The Moat Theatre · The Moat Theatre, Naas, Co. Kildare
The Andrea Bocelli Experience is a tribute concert celebrating three decades of music from the Italian tenor whose voice has sold over 90 million records worldwide. This is not a karaoke act or a loose tribute night - it is a full production presented by Platinum Events, starring award-winning Irish tenor Alan Fitzsimons and soprano Rachel Goode, backed by an ensemble of Ireland’s finest classical musicians. If you have ever been moved by Con Te Partirò on a film soundtrack, or by Time to Say Goodbye without quite knowing why, this is the show that rewards that feeling with a proper night out.
The performance runs for around 110 minutes with one intermission, taking the audience through the arc of Bocelli’s career - from the operatic material that first made his name through to his crossover pop and film collaborations. Expect pieces including The Prayer, Nessun Dorma and Time to Say Goodbye, moving between intimate, tender moments and full-voiced show-stopping passages. Alan Fitzsimons has the classical training to carry Nessun Dorma without it feeling stretched, and Rachel Goode’s soprano brings the duets to life. The repertoire is built to please those who grew up with Bocelli as well as newcomers who only know one or two songs but find them hard to shake.
Naas is the county town of Kildare and one of the easiest out-of-Dublin trips you can make. It sits directly on the M7 motorway, roughly 30 kilometres south-west of the city centre - about 30 minutes by car in decent traffic. By bus, Dublin Coach and Bus Éireann both run regular services from Dublin city, dropping passengers on the main street within easy walking distance of the Moat Theatre on Abbey Road. There is pay-and-display parking in the town centre and a public car park off Basin Street a short walk from the venue. The Moat Theatre itself holds around 200 people, so the room is compact enough that most seats feel close to the stage.
Naas has a decent selection of restaurants and pubs along Main Street if you want to eat before the show - most kitchens are done by 9pm, so an early dinner works well with an 8pm curtain. There is more to see in Naas and across Co. Kildare.
