At Armagh City Centre · Market Square and McCrum's Court, Armagh, Co. Armagh, BT61
Every Saturday through the summer, Armagh city centre quietly transforms. Live music drifts across Market Square, kids get elbow-deep in a craft project, a dance performance spills out onto the pavement. Summer in the City is a free, weekly programme run by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, running from 20 July right through to 7 September 2026. It suits families most of all, but the music and street activity pull in anyone passing through on a Saturday afternoon.
Sessions run from noon to 4pm each Saturday across three connected spots - Market Square, McCrum’s Court, and the area outside the Market Place Theatre. The mix shifts week to week but typically covers crafts, live music, dance, football skills, science experiments, cooking for kids, cheerleading, and magic. The week of 29 July has an “Express Yourself” theme with visual art, spoken word and live music - a good one to aim for if you want the full creative atmosphere.
Everything is drop-in. No booking, no ticket to collect. You turn up, see what is on, and get involved as much or as little as suits you. The activities skew toward younger children but the music and the general buzz of a busy square make it worth an hour for anyone. Weekly themes are posted at visitarmagh.com as the summer progresses.
Armagh is served by bus from Portadown, Dungannon and Newry. Market Square is a short walk from the main bus stops on Scotch Street and English Street. If you are driving, Dobbin Street Lane has a large free car park close to the centre, and St Patrick’s Trian multi-storey off English Street is near the theatre. The city is compact - you will not walk more than five minutes from any of the nearby car parks to the square.
Two cathedrals on opposing hills, the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium, and the Navan Centre just outside town interpreting one of Ireland’s most important Iron Age sites - there is plenty to build a day around. There is more to see in Armagh and across Co. Armagh.
