What to Expect

The Ballydehob Car Boot Sale is a long-running fixture on the West Cork car boot circuit, held every Sunday at the Community Hall in Ballydehob village on the Mizen Peninsula road. Gates open from 8am, sellers set up from around 8:30am, and trading continues through to about 3pm. It draws a loyal mix of locals clearing out sheds and attics alongside regular dealers, making for a good spread of secondhand clothing, books, bric-a-brac, tools, toys, and the odd genuine find. Sellers pay €10 per car or van and are given free refreshments for the morning, while browsing is free for everyone else. Tables are not supplied, so anyone selling should bring their own, and the hall provides shelter and toilets if the West Cork weather turns.

Ballydehob has built a reputation as one of the more sociable stops on the Sunday car boot trail in this part of the county, and the sale is a good excuse to combine a browse with a walk around the village’s colourful shopfronts afterwards.

Like most outdoor car boot sales in West Cork, trading is weather-dependent to a degree, though the hall itself gives sellers and buyers somewhere dry to shelter if a shower comes through. Cash is the standard way to pay - card readers are the exception rather than the rule at this kind of event - so it is worth bringing coins and small notes for easier haggling. Early birds get the best of the genuine bric-a-brac and secondhand finds, while a later, more relaxed visit around midday suits anyone happy to browse rather than hunt for a specific bargain.
