At Ballymahon Market · Main Street, Ballymahon, Co. Longford
On the first Friday of every month, up to twenty stalls of local makers and producers set up along Main Street in Ballymahon for the town’s artisan and craft market. It is curated rather than a general car boot sale, pulling traders from across the midlands who work in handcrafted goods, artisan food and vintage finds, with an emphasis on sustainable, plastic-free trading. The next date after mid-July falls on Friday, 7 August 2026, running from roughly 9am to 2pm.
Expect a browsable mix of art, craft and culinary stalls: handmade jewellery, ceramics, textiles and homeware sit alongside baked goods, preserves and other small-batch food producers. Some months bring a themed variation, such as a family day with activities laid on alongside the usual stalls. The market has built a following through Facebook and Instagram as a monthly date for something a bit different from the everyday Main Street shopfronts, and traders are encouraged to apply in advance through the organisers rather than turning up on the day. Because it runs monthly rather than weekly, the stall list varies more from one date to the next than a standard farmers market would.
The market runs along Main Street in the centre of Ballymahon, within walking distance of the town’s car parks. Ballymahon sits roughly midway between Athlone and Longford town, making it an easy stop for anyone travelling between the two.
Ballymahon is Oliver Goldsmith country, a small market town on the River Inny where the Goldsmith Country trail begins, so a market morning combines well with a wander along the river or through the town’s older streets. There is more to see in Ballymahon and across Co. Longford.
