What to Expect

Ballyvaughan Farmers Market operates every Saturday from May to October at St John’s Hall in the village, and is built around the small cluster of well-known Burren food producers based in the area. Regular stalls include award-winning meat from the Burren Butcher, Ailwee Burren Gold Cheese, Burren Honey and Clareville House Preserves, alongside fresh fruit and vegetables, shellfish landed on the coast, salads, German sausage, crepes, and hot and cold drinks. Live Irish traditional music is a regular feature on market mornings, and the market also runs occasional free demonstrations and competitions, giving it more of an event feel than a straightforward shopping trip. Ballyvaughan sits at the northern gateway to the Burren, close to Aillwee Cave, the Burren Perfumery and the start of the Corkscrew Hill road, so the market draws a strong mix of local Burren farmers and producers, day-trippers and touring visitors through the season. There is outdoor seating, free WiFi and toilet facilities on site, and the market is fully accessible with free parking nearby, with guide dogs welcome for visitors who need them. Ballyvaughan’s small harbour on Galway Bay is a few minutes’ walk from the hall, and the village sits at the foot of Corkscrew Hill, the winding road that climbs south toward Lisdoonvarna, so many visitors combine the market with a walk along the shore or a scenic drive through the Burren uplands.

Getting There

Ballyvaughan is on the N67 on the southern shore of Galway Bay, about 50km north of Ennis. The village is well signposted from the N67, with parking available nearby.
