At Blacks Brewery · Cappagh, Kinsale, Co. Cork, P17 AY10
The Blacks Brewery Cycle Sportive is one of those events that gets the balance right - it is a proper challenge on proper roads, and it finishes with a BBQ at a craft brewery in one of Ireland’s most attractive harbour towns. On Sunday 5 July 2026, cyclists of different abilities can line up together at Blacks Brewery in Kinsale and head out along the Wild Atlantic Way, choosing how hard they want to push it. If you have been looking for a reason to finally do a sportive, or if you do them regularly and want a scenic one with a good atmosphere at the end, this fits both.
Two routes start and finish at Blacks Brewery in Cappagh, just outside Kinsale town. The shorter 70 km option is nicknamed the Half Pint; the 105 km is the Full Pint. Both head out along the Wild Atlantic Way, which in this part of Cork means coastal roads with views across the Celtic Sea, rolling countryside with short steep climbs, and the kind of quiet back roads that reward a bit of effort to reach. The terrain is rated moderate - expect rolling hills and some sustained climbs, but nothing that rules out intermediate riders. Full support is in place for the day: route markings throughout, mechanical assistance on the road, medical cover, feed stops, and pickup wagons if you need them. Photography is included, and changing rooms are available at the event centre. When you cross the finish line, a BBQ and refreshments from Blacks Brewery are waiting - that is the kind of incentive that keeps legs moving on the final climb.
Blacks Brewery is at Cappagh, Kinsale, Co. Cork, roughly 25 km south of Cork city on the R600. From Cork, take the N27 south and follow signs for Kinsale - the drive takes around 30 to 35 minutes. There is no direct Bus Eireann service to the brewery itself; the most practical option is to drive or arrange a lift from Cork city. Parking is available at the event site. If you are travelling from further afield, Cork Airport is about 20 km away and Cork Kent train station connects to the national rail network.
The town of Kinsale sits just a few minutes from the brewery and is well worth an hour before or after the ride - its narrow streets, fine food scene, and the views from Charles Fort make it an easy afternoon. There is more to see in Kinsale and across Co. Cork.
