Brockagh Market & Carboot

At The Brockagh Resource Centre · The Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh, Co. Wicklow

Car boot market at Brockagh Resource Centre

Every second Sunday the car park at the Brockagh Resource Centre fills with boots, trestle tables and the kind of browsing that can’t be rushed. The Brockagh Market and Car Boot is a free community event that pulls in a steady mix of regulars selling off household goods alongside traders with plants, clothes, gifts and handmade bits. It suits bargain hunters, curious browsers and anyone who enjoys the particular pleasure of not knowing what they’ll find. The setting, the Glendalough valley just outside Laragh village, makes it worth the trip in its own right.

What to expect

The market runs indoors and outdoors, so it goes ahead in most weather. Stalls vary from car boots loaded with secondhand furniture and bric-a-brac to traders with a more curated offering of crafts and plants. Tea and coffee are available on site, along with food snacks, which gives the whole thing a leisurely pace rather than a hard-sell atmosphere. Stallholders pre-book their spots, €17 for an indoor table, €15 outside, so there is usually a decent turnout of vendors by opening time at 10am. The market runs until 3pm, giving visitors a comfortable window to work through at their own speed. The centre itself was established in 2001 as a community hub for the Laragh and Glendalough area, and the monthly market is one of its most popular recurring events.

Getting there

Laragh is on the R755, easily reached from Rathdrum to the south or from Roundwood via the Sally Gap road from Dublin. From Dublin city the drive takes around an hour. Parking is available on site at the resource centre. If travelling without a car, the nearest rail station is Rathdrum on the Dublin Heuston to Rosslare line; from there a local taxi can reach Laragh in around 15 minutes. The Glendalough Bus service also connects Dublin with the valley on weekends, check timetables in advance.

While you’re in Laragh

Laragh sits at the junction of two valleys and is the natural base for exploring the Glendalough monastic site, just a short walk down the road. The walk around the upper and lower lakes is one of the most rewarding easy hikes in Leinster and takes no more than two hours at a gentle pace. There is more to see in Laragh and across Co. Wicklow.
