Glory Days is one of Ireland’s most active Bruce Springsteen tribute acts, bringing a full live band recreation of The Boss and the E Street Band to Mullingar this July. If you have ever wondered what a Springsteen concert feels like without the transatlantic airfare, this is the closest you will get on an Irish Saturday night. The show suits anyone who grew up with the catalogue, but the energy tends to pull in younger audiences too - Born to Run holds up across generations in a way that few artists’ work does.
The band works its way through the anthemic rock numbers - Born to Run, Dancing in the Dark, Badlands - alongside the quieter material like The River and I’m on Fire. The show runs to approximately two hours with one interval, giving you room to catch your breath and get a round in. This is a full live band performance built around genuine musicianship, not a karaoke recreation, and the setlist draws widely from across Springsteen’s decades of recordings.
The show takes place at Mullingar Arts Centre on Lower Mount Street, a 400-seat venue that has been the town’s main home for touring theatre and live music since 1998. It is a comfortable, properly staged auditorium - the kind of room where sound and sightlines are sorted, and the show is the thing.
Mullingar sits roughly in the middle of Ireland on the N4/M4 corridor. From Dublin it is about 80 kilometres and just over an hour by road. Irish Rail runs regular services from Dublin Connolly and Athlone into Mullingar station, which is a 10-minute walk from the Arts Centre. Bus Eireann also serves the town from Dublin and Galway. Parking is available on-street in the town centre.
The town has a good run of pubs and restaurants on the main street - worth arriving early to eat before the show. Mullingar sits between Lough Owel and Lough Ennell, and either lake makes a fine reason to stay over and explore. There is more to see in Mullingar and across Co. Westmeath.
