At Charlie's Bar · 1 Church Street, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, BT74 7EA
Charlie’s Bar closes out the Enniskillen weekend with Traditional Irish Music from 7:30pm every Sunday, played by the Irish Traditional Group in the downstairs bar on Church Street. It is a quieter, later addition to a weekend that in Enniskillen usually runs through Friday and Saturday nightclub and DJ sets elsewhere in town, and it gives visitors a mellower option once the bigger nights are done. Charlie’s has been family run since 1944 and its downstairs bar, with an open fire and worn wooden furniture, sets a different tone to the town’s later, louder venues.
The Irish Traditional Group plays from 7:30pm in the downstairs bar, an open session built around fiddle, flute, banjo and accordion with singers and visiting musicians welcome to join in. There is no set list and no booked cover act, so the night has the loose, conversational feel of a proper session rather than a programmed gig. Compared to the DJ nights at Industry or Pat’s Bar Level 2 earlier in the weekend, Charlie’s on a Sunday is a change of pace, aimed at listening and talking rather than dancing. The bar has picked up a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice award and an Ulster Pub of the Year title, and the Sunday session is one of the reasons regulars rate it. It runs year round rather than only through the summer season, making it a reliable Sunday fixture in the town.
Charlie’s Bar is on Church Street in Enniskillen town centre, within easy walking distance of Blakes of the Hollow and the rest of the town’s main bars. Street parking and the Tesco car park on the west bank are both close by.
Church Street is the natural place to end a weekend in Enniskillen, with most of the town’s bars within a few minutes of each other. Charlie’s on a Sunday is a low-key way to close things out. There is more to see in Enniskillen and across Co. Fermanagh.
