What to Expect

Huntington Castle in Clonegal has a history dating back to 1400 and is open for guided tours throughout summer 2026 from 11am to 5pm. Guided tours take visitors through the Tapestry Room (featuring Aubusson French tapestries), a conservatory housing a grape vine from Hampton Court Palace, and the dungeons - including the Temple of the Goddess and an ancient Holy Well that is normally closed to the public. Tours are led by family members and cover centuries of the castle’s story from its origins as a 15th-century fortification through to its current life as a family home.

• Open daily June through September, 11am-5pm; check website in advance as occasional closures occur for special events.

• Garden-only ticket: €6.95; House and garden: €13.95; concessions available for seniors, students, and children.

• Castle tours are not wheelchair accessible due to staircases and narrow corridors; gardens are more accessible.

• No booking required for individuals; groups should contact in advance.

Getting There

Clonegal is in the south-east corner of County Carlow, close to the Wicklow border on the R746. Parking is available at the castle.
