Carlow AC Masters Athletics - Summer Track and Field

At Carlow IT Track · Kilkenny Road, Carlow, Co. Carlow

Masters athletes competing in track and field in Carlow

Track and field competition for registered athletes aged 35 and over, organised by Carlow Athletics Club and Athletics Ireland Leinster. This is competitive sport proper - sprints, field events, middle distance, hurdles and walks at a genuine standard - not a fun run. If you are an Athletics Ireland member who still wants to race, jump or throw against people at the same stage of life, this is the fixture for you. It suits experienced club athletes as much as those returning to competition after a gap.

What to expect

Events are grouped across five-year age bands - O35, O40, O45, O50, O55, O60, O65, O70 and above - and athletes can typically enter multiple events within their category. Field events include shot put, discus, javelin, long jump, high jump and triple jump alongside the track programme. Competition runs across morning and afternoon sessions.

The venue is the SETU Carlow South Sports Campus on the Kilkenny Road - a purpose-built 31-acre facility with a 400m synthetic athletics track, full field event run-ups and landing areas, and a Pavilion with changing rooms on site. The track has hosted the Leinster Senior and Masters Championships and the AAI Games, so it is a proper competitive venue.

Athletics Ireland membership is required. Entry goes through the Athletics Ireland events portal at athleticsireland.ie - check athleticsleinster.org and carlowac.ie for the confirmed events programme and entry deadlines. Entering in advance is advisable as day-of-event entry is not guaranteed.

Getting there

SETU Carlow South Sports Campus is on the Kilkenny Road (R448), on the southern edge of Carlow town. From Dublin it is about 85km via the M7/M9 - roughly an hour. From Kilkenny, take the R448 north for around 25km. Car parking is available on campus.

Carlow train station is on the Dublin - Waterford line, with regular Irish Rail services from Heuston. The campus is about 2km from the station.

While you’re in Carlow

Carlow town has the river Barrow running through it and a Norman castle near the town bridge worth a look after competition. There is more to see in Carlow and across Co. Carlow.
