ALDOC Live at The Tower, Carlow

ALDOC play a genre mashup that has made them one of the more unusual acts on the Irish live circuit: traditional flutes and whistles built into electronic beats and thumping rhythms, played by musicians drawn from Kíla, Sam Fender’s touring band and Horslips. Their music is familiar to a much wider audience than their gig crowd, too - it’s been the entrance music for every team walking out in Croke Park since 2017.

What to Expect

Doors open at 7:30pm with local support act Asophonics warming up the room before ALDOC take over from 8pm through to 11:30pm. Expect a proper band set-up rather than a DJ night: live traditional instrumentation layered over electronic production, described as combining “traditional flutes and whistles, electronic beats, electric guitars and thumping rhythms.” With over a million Spotify streams and members who’ve played in some of Ireland’s best-known acts, this is a headline-standard show landing in a mid-sized Carlow venue rather than a big city arena.

Getting There

The Tower is on Tullow Street, Carlow’s main commercial street, an easy walk from Carlow railway station on the Dublin Heuston to Waterford line and the town’s central car parks.

While You’re in Carlow

With doors at 7:30pm, there’s time for food on Tullow Street beforehand - the street carries most of the town’s independent restaurants and cafes. Carlow Castle’s riverside ruins sit on the bank of the River Barrow a short walk away, and the Carlow County Museum on College Street is worth a look if you’re in town earlier in the day.
