Verse and Resonance at Carlow Methodist Church

Verse and Resonance is the fourth date in the five-week Carlow Beo! concert and theatre series at Carlow Methodist Church, and the one built most directly around live music rather than theatre or talks. It pairs spoken poetry with musical accompaniment through the evening rather than running the two as separate halves of a bill.

What to Expect

The format sets poems against live musical backing, with the church’s acoustic space suiting the quieter, unamplified pairing of voice and instrument well. It follows on from the series’ opening weeks, which included a classical recital (“A Night of Opera”) and a piece of new writing for the stage, and sits ahead of the closing traditional music night the following week. As with the rest of the series, the bill is drawn from working artists rather than an open-mic format, so expect a curated, rehearsed performance rather than an amateur night.

Getting There

Carlow Methodist Church is on the Athy Road, within easy walking distance of Carlow town centre and the railway station on the Dublin Heuston to Waterford line. On-street parking is available nearby, with the Fairgreen car park a short walk away.
