Castletown Festival 2026

At Castletown Village · Castletown, Co. Tipperary

Castletown Festival 2026

A free community summer festival in Castletown village, run by local people for local people - and open to anyone who happens to be passing through Co. Tipperary on a Friday evening in late July. The Castletown Community has pulled together to put on a evening of entertainment, family activities and communal craic in a part of Tipperary that rarely makes the tourist headlines. That is part of the appeal.

What to expect

The festival takes the shape of a classic Irish village gathering - the kind where you will find a bit of everything happening at once. Community organisations including the GAA club, Tidy Towns, and local parent associations typically pool resources for events like this, running stalls, games and activities alongside entertainment on a central stage or green. Expect food and drink vendors, activities pitched at children of all ages, and the easy-going atmosphere that comes from a community that is simply glad to be out together. The festival runs from 6pm, so there is a full evening ahead of you. Bring a folding chair or a blanket if you have one - outdoor seating at village festivals like this often runs short.

Getting there

Castletown sits in the Owney and Arra area of north Co. Tipperary, roughly 8 miles west-northwest of Nenagh. By road, the N7 Dublin - Limerick route passes not far to the north, and the M7 motorway makes Nenagh an easy stop from both directions. From Limerick it is around 40 minutes by road; from Dublin roughly two hours. Tipperary town itself is served by train on the Waterford - Limerick line, though note that Sunday services are limited. For rural villages like Castletown, a car is the most practical option; Local Link Tipperary operates door-to-door and scheduled rural services on pre-booking, which can work for those without wheels if you plan ahead. Free parking is available in the village.

While you’re in Tipperary

The area around Castletown is quiet, green Tipperary countryside - the kind that rewards a slow drive. Lough Derg is a short distance to the west, and Nenagh town has a good castle keep and a well-stocked farmers market on Saturday mornings. There is more to see in Tipperary and across Co. Tipperary.
