Charlie’s Bar on Church Street runs its Irish Traditional Group every Sunday evening from 7:30pm in the downstairs bar, the longest-standing fixture in a live music programme that also covers Thursday to Saturday nights through the rest of the week. Charlie’s own website lists the Sunday trad slot separately from its weekend band nights, and confirms the bar publishes a monthly calendar of who is playing across its rooms.
The Irish Traditional Group takes the downstairs bar from 7:30pm, playing standard session repertoire on fiddle, flute, banjo and accordion with space for singers and visiting musicians to join in. It runs as a genuine open session rather than a booked act, so players vary week to week around a core of regulars. Charlie’s also runs live music Thursday through Saturday in its downstairs bar, with an additional Saturday night slot in the upstairs lounge covering modern, country, Irish folk and chart music, so the Sunday trad session is deliberately the quieter, more listening-focused end of the week’s programme rather than the main draw. The pub has held a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice award and an Ulster Pub of the Year title in recent years. Table bookings are available for anyone who wants to guarantee a seat near the musicians.
