At Collinstown Village Hall · Collinstown, N91 HR96, Co. Westmeath
Every second Sunday, the village hall in Collinstown opens for a fortnightly farmers market that mixes indoor craft stalls with outdoor food stalls under canopies in the car park. Collinstown is a small crossroads village in north Westmeath overlooking Lough Lene, and the market has become one of the more distinctive stops on the county’s market calendar because of the split character: handmade goods inside the traditional dance hall, fresh food and baking outside.
Inside the hall, stalls sell bespoke dolls, soaps, crochet, knitting, woodwork, art and jewellery, the kind of handmade craft mix that would usually need a dedicated craft fair. Outside, under gazebos, other stallholders sell sourdough and brown bread, raw milk, quiches, focaccia, carrot cake and traybakes, alongside seasonal vegetables, salads, eggs, preserves, chutneys, oils and health and beauty products. Coffee and snacks are available on site, and there is a playground next to the hall for children while parents browse. Because it runs only every second Sunday rather than weekly, stallholders tend to bring a fuller range each time, and the fortnightly gap has not stopped it building a loyal following from Collinstown and the wider Lough Lene area over its several years running.
Collinstown is about 18km northeast of Mullingar on the R395, overlooking Lough Lene in north County Westmeath. The village hall has ample on-site parking, and the market is an easy stop if you are already heading toward Fore Abbey or Loughcrew, both a short drive away.
Collinstown sits close to Lough Lene, Fore Abbey and Loughcrew, making the fortnightly market a good excuse to combine a browse with a walk by the lake or a visit to the abbey ruins. There is more to see in Collinstown and across Co. Westmeath.
