Comedy Night at National Opera House

At National Opera House Wexford · High Street, Wexford, Co. Wexford

Comedy performance at National Opera House Wexford

Enya Martin brings her touring show “Acting The Divil” to the National Opera House in Wexford on Friday 4 September 2026. It is a sharp, warm hour of stand-up that covers modern fitness culture, the particular quiet of a long-term childless relationship, and what it means to grow up on a council estate in the nineties and end up flying first class to Australia. Her mother, as Martin would tell you, is still the punchline to most of it. This is the kind of show that suits people who like comedy rooted in real life - no relentless edge, no shock for shock’s sake, just confident observational storytelling from someone who has clearly lived a bit.

What to expect

Martin has been touring “Acting The Divil” across Ireland and the UK through 2025 and into 2026, playing venues from Vicar Street in Dublin to the Spirit Store in Dundalk, and the National Opera House is one of her later Irish dates before the show wraps. The performance is described by the venue as “a funny, heartfelt hour about chasing success while staying true to the people who shaped you.” Expect a single comedian, no support act format, in the intimate O’Reilly Theatre - a 771-seat auditorium that puts you close enough to the stage to catch every expression. The room has good acoustics and a proper theatre feel without being stiff about it. Martin’s style is conversational and builds steadily; it rewards listening.

Getting there

Wexford town is about an hour and forty minutes by road from Dublin via the M11 and N11, and roughly two hours from Cork via the N25. The National Opera House sits on High Street, which is narrow and one-way, so arriving from the Wexford Bridge end is easier. Parking is available at the High Street Car Park directly adjacent to the venue (pay and display), at Rowe Street Church carpark two minutes on foot, and at the Clayton Whites Hotel underground car park about five minutes away - both the latter have pay-on-exit systems so you do not need coins up front. Bus Eireann and Wexford Bus serve the town, and Irish Rail runs a service from Dublin Connolly and Rosslare; Wexford train station on Redmond Square is roughly a ten-minute walk to the venue.

While you’re in Wexford

Wexford town is compact and easy to spend an afternoon in before the show - the quays along the River Slaney are good for a walk, and the town has a handful of decent spots for food before an 8pm curtain. September is a pleasant time to visit, with the famous Wexford Festival Opera still a few weeks away and the town quieter for it. There is more to see in Wexford and across Co. Wexford.
