David Nihill brings his stand-up show Taking Tangents to Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray on Sunday, 4 October 2026. The Irish comedian, who has lived and worked across twelve countries and visited more than eighty, builds the set around cultural observations, travel mishaps, language mix-ups and his own experience as an immigrant, most recently in the United States. It is a rare County Wicklow date on a tour that has been selling rooms out internationally.
Nihill is a San Francisco Comedy Competition winner and a Moth GrandSLAM storytelling runner-up, and has released three recorded specials: Documented (2019), Cultural Appreciation (2023) and the award-winning Shelf Help (2025). His material has appeared on TED.com, the Netflix Is A Joke Festival and RTE’s The Late Late Show, and has drawn more than a billion video views online. Taking Tangents leans on his years abroad, twelve countries lived in and counting, for material about culture shock, dating across languages and the small humiliations of being the outsider in the room. Reviewers have called him warm and affable, with a distinctly Irish, tongue-in-cheek sensibility underneath the travel stories. Doors at Mermaid Arts Centre open ahead of the 7pm start, with the venue noting the show has been selling fast.
Mermaid Arts Centre is on Main Street in Bray town centre, a short walk from Bray DART and railway station on the Dublin to Rosslare line. Wheelchair and accessible seating must be booked in advance through the box office on 01 272 4030.
