At Derry City Walls and City Centre · City Walls, Derry, Co. Derry BT48
The Maiden City Festival is the annual week-long celebration of Derry’s history and cultural identity centred on the Siege of Derry (1688 - 1689). Now in its 28th year, the 2026 edition runs from Friday 31 July to Saturday 8 August, with a programme of events spanning the historic city walls, St Columb’s Cathedral, and the city centre. Highlights include live Siege of Derry historical re-enactments along the city walls, the Siege Pageant at Carlisle Circus, and Siege Tales where characters from the period bring the history to life. The Skirl of the Pipes features piping, drumming, and Highland Dance demonstrations on the Grand Parade of the city walls. Tea dances and guided cathedral tours round out the cultural programme. The festival culminates in the Relief of Londonderry parade marking the 335th anniversary of the ending of the siege on 1 August 1689.
The city walls are a 10-minute walk from Foyle Street bus station. The Guildhall Square and city centre car parks are the most convenient parking for wall-side events. The Peace Bridge provides a pleasant pedestrian approach from the Ebrington/Waterside area.
