At Millennium Forum · Newmarket Street, Derry, Co. Derry
A full theatre production celebrating the decade that gave the world disco, glam rock, soul and funk, the Icons of the 70s Show arrives at Derry’s Millennium Forum on Sunday 30 August 2026. Produced by JMG Music Group, this is a proper live concert experience - a multi-talented cast and the well-known Mindbenders band performing pitch-perfect renditions of hits from some of the biggest names in pop history. If you grew up with this music, or simply have a soft spot for a time when costumes were bold and every song had a hook you could not shake, this is a good night out.
The show runs for 140 minutes with one interval, giving the cast time to work through a seriously varied setlist. Artists on the bill include The Jackson 5, ABBA, Queen, Earth Wind and Fire, Blondie, Gloria Gaynor, Diana Ross, The Bee Gees, Donna Summer and Tina Turner - covering the full sweep of what the 1970s sounded like, from disco floor-fillers to pop anthems to rock. The production leans into the era’s look too, with dazzling period costumes that are part of the spectacle. It is the kind of show where the audience knows every word and is not shy about letting the performers know it. The Millennium Forum’s 1,000-seat auditorium and what is reputedly the largest theatre stage in Ireland gives the production plenty of room to fill.
The Millennium Forum is on Newmarket Street in Derry city centre, easy to find on foot from most parts of the city. The venue has no car park of its own, but there are more than 2,500 off-street parking spaces within a five-minute walk. Foyleside Shopping Centre’s East Car Park is the one most theatre-goers use - it stays open until 11:30pm on evenings like this. Whittaker Street Car Park, behind Foyle Street Bus Station, is another solid option. If you are coming by bus or coach, Foyle Street Bus Station is a short walk away, and Derry is well served by Translink services from Belfast and across the North.
Derry is worth arriving early for - the walled city is compact enough to explore on foot, and the area around Newmarket Street and the waterfront is particularly good for a meal before the show. There is more to see in Derry and across Co. Derry.
