What to Expect

Derry City and Strabane District Council runs a summer camps programme for children aged 6 to 12 across three leisure centres: Foyle Arena, Melvin Sports Complex and Templemore Sports Complex. Camps run in one-week blocks through July and August, ten till two each day, led by the centres’ own qualified sports and physical activity coaches, mixing multi-sport games, swimming and general activity rather than focusing on a single sport. The final week of the summer programme runs Monday 10 to Friday 14 August at Foyle Arena and Templemore Sports Complex, giving families a last block before schools go back.

Bookings are made online rather than at the centre, and earlier weeks in the summer have sold out, so booking as early as possible for a given week is worth it if a family wants a specific centre. Parents should bring a packed lunch and appropriate kit for outdoor and indoor activity, as camps mix both depending on weather.

Getting There

Foyle Arena is at 2 Limavady Road on Derry’s Waterside; Templemore Sports Complex is also within Derry city, a short drive or bus ride from the centre.
