Downpatrick Library runs a free weekly digital skills drop-in called Got IT every Friday morning from 9:30am to 10am, with the next session on Friday, 14 August 2026. The half-hour slot is a walk-in service for adults who want one-to-one help with a phone, tablet or laptop: typical requests include setting up email, getting to grips with online banking, learning basic smartphone settings, or general troubleshooting. No booking is required, and the library confirms the programme continues to run through the summer and into autumn 2026, now also including one-to-one iPad sessions for complete beginners alongside the general drop-in.
Got IT is Libraries NI’s response to digital exclusion: short, informal, one-to-one sessions where a staff member sits down with whatever device someone brings in and works through their actual question, rather than a structured class with a fixed syllabus. Downpatrick’s slot runs first thing on a Friday morning, before the library gets busy, which suits people who want a quiet room and undivided attention rather than a group setting. The programme exists because an increasing share of everyday life, from renewing a passport to booking a hospital appointment to managing a bank account, now assumes comfortable internet access, and libraries are one of the few remaining public spaces offering free, judgement-free help with that shift. Sessions are open to any adult regardless of ability, and there is no charge and no need to be a library member to attend. Staff can also point attendees toward Libraries NI’s wider digital inclusion resources if a single half-hour session is not enough.
