Down LGFA Underage Leagues: U14 and U16

Down’s underage ladies football leagues continue through August, with the U14 League’s Friday 7 August 2026 round featuring Bredagh against Bryansford at Cherryvale. The U16 League plays its own round of fixtures across several divisions the same weekend, with games at grounds around the county.

What to expect

Bredagh, one of the Down clubs based in south Belfast, host Bryansford, a Mourne club, in a U14 League fixture that is part of the regular weekly cycle running through the summer months. The U16 League runs in parallel with its own divisions and results feeding into end-of-season standings rather than a knockout format at this stage. Down ladies football has grown quickly at underage level in recent years, with more clubs fielding teams across the age grades than a decade ago, and these weekly league nights are where that depth is built. Matches are typically 40 to 50 minutes long for this age group and draw a crowd of parents, coaches and club members rather than the general public. As with most underage GAA fixtures in the county, there is no admission charge.

Getting there

Cherryvale is a shared playing fields site in south Belfast, just inside the Down GAA catchment, reached via the Ravenhill Road or Ormeau Road from the city centre. On-street parking is available near the grounds.

Cherryvale is close to central Belfast for anyone combining the match with a wider visit, and within reach of Down for those heading further south afterwards.
