The Fenagh Steam and Heritage Rally returns to this small Carlow village for its second year running, after a 2025 revival brought back an event that had run for more than 40 years before a 12-year gap. The 2026 rally is set for Sunday 6 September, and the organisers - a new generation of local rally enthusiasts - are again raising funds for the Carlow-Kilkenny Homecare team and other local charities.
The rally centres on steam engines, with static displays and working demonstrations that let visitors see, hear and smell machinery from a bygone era of Irish farming and industry. Alongside the steam engines is a broad collection of vintage vehicles - classic cars, tractors and retro bikes - each usually with an owner on hand happy to talk through its history. A craft fair runs alongside the machinery, with stalls selling handmade jewellery, home decor and artwork, and the day also includes a carnival, a dog show, food and drink stands and a tea tent, making it a genuine family day out rather than a niche gathering for enthusiasts only. For the 2025 revival, gates opened at 2pm; organisers typically confirm the exact running order and gate times closer to the date via Facebook, so it is worth checking before travelling.
Fenagh is a small village in County Carlow, reachable via local roads from both Carlow town and Bagenalstown (Muinebheag). The rally is a cash-only event at the gate, so bring notes and coins rather than relying on card payment. Parking is typically in an adjoining field, so sturdy footwear is worth considering if the ground is soft underfoot.
