Fenagh Steam and Heritage Rally 2026

At Fenagh Village · Fenagh, Co. Carlow, R21 N562

Vintage steam engine on display at a rural Carlow rally

What to Expect

Fenagh, a small village on the R724 between Bagenalstown and Myshall, fills up with steam engines and vintage machinery every autumn for the Fenagh Steam and Heritage Rally. It is a proper working rally rather than a static museum display: steam engines run demonstrations through the day alongside vintage tractors, trucks, classic cars and retro motorbikes, brought along by their owners from across the south-east. There is a traditional crafts exhibition, a dog show, a craft fair, and a carnival for children, plus food and drink stands and a tea tent for anyone happy to just wander and look rather than inspect engines all day. The rally has a long history in the parish, having run for more than 40 years before a hiatus, and the 2026 event marks its 44th outing, organised by local volunteers and run in aid of Carlow Kilkenny Homecare and other local charities. It draws a genuinely local crowd, families from Fenagh, Bagenalstown, Myshall and Borris turning out alongside serious vintage enthusiasts who tow their machines in for the day.

Getting There

Fenagh sits on the R724, about 7.5km from Bagenalstown (Muine Bheag) and a similar distance from Myshall, roughly 15km south of Carlow town. The village is reachable by car via the R724, or from Carlow town via the R705 and R724. There is no direct rail or bus service into Fenagh itself, so the nearest train station is Muine Bheag on the Dublin to Waterford line, with a short taxi or lift covering the rest of the journey.
