Foy Vance at Wexford Spiegeltent Festival

At Fortuna Spiegeltent · The Quay, Wexford Town, Co. Wexford

A singer-songwriter performing a seated acoustic set inside a spiegeltent

What to Expect

Foy Vance brings a folk, soul and southern blues-influenced set to the Fortuna Spiegeltent as part of the Wexford Spiegeltent Festival, in a seated rather than standing show that suits his songwriting-led material. The Northern Irish artist is touring behind his seventh album, The Wake, produced by the Brit Award-winning Ethan Johns, a record billed as the completion of a seven-album cycle he began back in 2007 and described as the culmination of years of tireless soul-searching. His voice and guitar-led songs have long made him a favourite for intimate rooms rather than festival main stages, and the Spiegeltent’s raked timber floor and mirrored panels give exactly that kind of close, cabaret-style setting. The over-18s restriction and seated format mark this out as a more contained listening experience than some of the festival’s other, louder bookings. Falling on a Tuesday rather than a weekend night, it is also one of the quieter, easier-to-get-into dates in a programme where the Friday and Saturday shows tend to sell fastest.

The Spiegeltent programme runs music alongside comedy across its full fortnight, and Vance’s date sits roughly midway through the closing week, after Gavin James and The Scratch have played and just ahead of Paul Brady’s show two days later. That run of dates gives the festival’s back stretch a strong, song-focused character, distinct from the pop and rock-leaning acts earlier in October.
