What to Expect

Gorey parkrun starts every Saturday at 9:30am from the car park at the Fort Road entrance to Gorey District Park, a free timed 5k open to walkers, joggers and runners of every ability. The park itself is a relatively new addition to the town: it was expanded from 2019 onward by combining the original District Park with the former Show Grounds site into a modern 13 acre public space, and today it includes a children’s playground, one of the first municipal skate parks of its kind, a sand carpet grass pitch, a constructed wetland, and a universal access walking route, alongside a café and social space. That mix of facilities makes it a genuine community hub for the town and the wider north Wexford and south Wicklow area, not just a running venue.

Like every parkrun event, Gorey parkrun is free to enter and run entirely by volunteers, with marshals, timekeepers and barcode scanners drawn from the local running and walking community each week. First time participants need to register once at parkrun.ie and bring a barcode to be scanned at the finish line so their time is recorded; after that, turning up each Saturday is all that is required. The course makes use of the park’s paths and the universal access route, so it suits buggies and those new to running as well as club athletes using it as a fast, competitive time trial. It has become one of the more sociable weekly fixtures in Gorey, with many participants staying on for a coffee at the park café once the run and results are done.

Getting There

Gorey District Park is on the Fort Road on the edge of Gorey town, within easy walking distance of the town centre, with a car park on site including camper van facilities. Gorey is served by Bus Éireann and Wexford Bus routes from Dublin and Wexford town for anyone travelling in without a car.
