Grangecon ICA Guild Whist Drive

At Grangecon Parish Hall · Grangecon, Co. Wicklow

Players seated around a table for a whist drive

Grangecon Parish Hall, west of Baltinglass toward Dunlavin, hosts a monthly whist drive run by the local ICA guild. It is one of the guild’s regular fixtures, alongside its broader programme of community activities, and follows the traditional Irish country-hall format: a card evening organised by and for the local community rather than a commercial event, with the small entry money typically going back into guild or hall funds.

What to Expect

The whist drive is held on the second Thursday of the month, drawing a mix of long-standing guild members and locals from the wider Grangecon, Dunlavin and Baltinglass area who come along for the cards and the company. Play follows the usual whist drive format of table-by-table pairings and progression through the evening, with tea and a chat typically part of the night alongside the cards themselves, in keeping with how these evenings run in rural halls across the county. It is a low-key, welcoming event aimed at anyone who knows the game or wants to learn, rather than a competitive tournament, and new faces are generally made welcome without needing to book in advance.
