At Avondale House · Avondale House, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow, A67 P303
The Green Man Market takes over the grounds of Avondale House on the first weekend of every month, running Saturday and Sunday. It is a curated artisan and craft market, with handmade goods, local art and craft demonstrations from small Wicklow makers, set against the historic backdrop of Charles Stewart Parnell’s former home. The venue also hosts the Beyond the Trees treetop walk and tower, so many visitors combine a walk through the forest canopy with a browse of the market stalls below.
Because it runs at a heritage site rather than a town centre, the market has more space and a more scenic setting than most Wicklow markets, and it draws visitors from well beyond Rathdrum, including day trippers already planning a trip to Avondale.
The monthly, first-weekend rhythm gives it a predictable slot in the calendar compared with some of the county’s other artisan markets, and running across both Saturday and Sunday means visitors have two chances to catch it if one day doesn’t suit. Craft demonstrations alongside the stalls give the market more of an events feel than a pure retail market, in keeping with the wider Avondale estate’s mix of forest walks, history and family activities.
Avondale House is just south of Rathdrum village on the R752, about an hour’s drive from Dublin city centre. There is on-site parking in the Avondale estate car park, a short walk from the market stalls near the house, and Rathdrum’s own train station on the Dublin to Rosslare line is a short taxi ride away for visitors travelling by rail.
