'0800 Cupid' at Siamsa Tíre

At Siamsa Tíre · Town Park, Tralee, Co. Kerry

0800 Cupid performance by Emer Dineen

ThisIsPopBaby’s ‘0800 Cupid’ arrives at Siamsa Tíre in Tralee as part of its 2026 Irish summer tour, and if the show’s reputation from its 2024 Dublin Theatre Festival sell-out run is anything to go by, it will fill the room. Cork-born cabaret performer, writer and vocalist Emer Dineen created the show with award-winning playwright and director Phillip McMahon, and the result sits somewhere between a rave, a confessional, and a musical theatre production. It suits audiences who enjoy work that takes risks - queer in spirit, funny in execution, and honest in a way that tends to land hard.

What to expect

The show charts a turbulent chapter in Emer Dineen’s own life: her father’s dementia diagnosis, her identity as drag crumbling club-kid ‘Cupid’ on the nightlife circuit, a Tourette’s diagnosis, and the mundane collapse of a call-centre job. Rather than playing these strands for sympathy, Dineen and McMahon fold them into something raucous and energetic - camp on the surface, sincere underneath. The music is co-written by Dineen and Tom Beech, produced by Irish EDM artist Elaine Mai, and the sound tips between house music, cabaret and concert. Critics gave it five stars at its premiere. The show is dedicated to Dineen’s father and functions in part as a love letter to him. Recommended for ages 14 and over.

The Tralee dates run 3-4 July 2026 and are billed as a natural warm-up for Kingdom Pride 2026, making the timing feel particularly right.

Getting there

Siamsa Tíre sits in Tralee Town Park, a short walk from the town centre. The venue is hard to miss - a purpose-built, 350-seat theatre with a round tower and stone walls that echo the ring forts of Kerry. Tralee is served by Bus Éireann from Cork, Limerick and Dublin, and by rail on the Tralee-Dublin intercity line (change at Mallow). If you are driving, the N21 connects from Limerick and the N22 from Cork. Town-centre parking is available at Denny Street and at the Ashe Memorial Hall car park, both within easy walking distance of the venue.

While you’re in Tralee

The town makes a good base for a night away - Kerry County Museum, the Aqua Dome and the Rose Garden in Tralee Town Park are all nearby. There is more to see in Tralee and across Co. Kerry.
